175th Anniversary of The Scarlet Letter

The Scarlet Letter was first published March 16, 1850.

Join us to celebrate the 175^th anniversary of the Salem Athenaeum’s most famous author’s most famous book.

We will celebrate with visual art and poetry, as well as a reading of short passages from the novel by Nathaniel Hawthorne that scandalized Salem; a work that has continued to fascinate and inspire us for generations. Opening remarks by Peter Walker, Professor of English at Salem State University.
